There is a lecture on Friday night at the 92nd St. Y (Tribeca Location) that
may be of interest:
How Games Mean
Games are becoming more and more ambitious, influential and important. They
are expanding their reach to a broader, mainstream audience and becoming
more sophisticated technically and creatively. As a result, there's a lot of
interest among designers, critics, gamers, and the public at large in the
question of whether, and how, games can be meaningful. Can games games
elevate us? Can they contribute something of genuine value to our lives? Can
they speak to us about the world? And if so, do they do it in a way that is
similar to that of other cultural forms such as music, theater, and
literature, or do they do it in some unique way? In this talk I will examine
some different ways of looking at this question in an attempt to better
understand what games are and where they are going.
